A Journey Still Unfolding

Every journey has a beginning, but some journeys change us so deeply that they never really end.

My own journey has taken me through many seasons of life—military service, family, career, recovery, faith, failure, growth, and the continuing discovery of who I am and who I want to become.

Along the way, I have learned that change is rarely a single event. It is a process of discovery, reflection, and growth. The Twelve Steps have been an important part of that process for me, but the deeper lesson has been learning how the principles behind the Steps can become part of everyday life.

That is the journey I am still on—and the journey these books invite others to explore.

A Life of Service and Experience

My adult life has been shaped by service, responsibility, and the people I have had the privilege to learn from along the way.

I spent twenty years serving in the United States Army as an infantryman and noncommissioned officer, serving in a variety of assignments at home and overseas. Those years taught me lessons about responsibility, perseverance, leadership, and the importance of serving something greater than myself.

After retiring from the Army, I continued my career in the civilian world, working in banking, technology, and insurance.

But some of the most important lessons of my life did not come from a career or a position. They came through recovery, relationships, mistakes, humility, and the ongoing work of becoming a better version of myself.

Why I Wrote These Books

Over the years, I began to look at the Twelve Steps not only as a path of recovery, but as a framework for personal and spiritual growth.

I became increasingly interested in the principles that seemed to emerge from the Steps—and in what happens when those principles move beyond the pages of a book and begin to shape the way we live.

A Spiritual Journey Through the Twelve Steps was written from that perspective. It is not intended to replace A.A. literature or to tell anyone how they should understand the Steps. Instead, it offers an opportunity to explore the spiritual principles I have found within them and consider how those principles can continue to develop within us.

The companion workbook extends that invitation from reading into reflection and personal exploration.

The Journey Continues

There is always more to discover, more to reflect upon, and more room to grow.

I do not consider myself finished.

I am still discovering.
I am still reflecting.
I am still growing.

And perhaps that is one of the most meaningful things I have learned along the way:

The Journey of Discovery Continues.
